5SOS, Havana Brown, Iggy Azalea nominated for EMAs

The nominees for the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards were revealed today with Sydney boy band 5 Seconds of Summer scoring multiple nominations along with rapper Iggy Azalea.

The breakout group is set to go head-to-head with UK’s One Direction in the Best Pop category, whilst Azalea and fellow hip hop artist Nicki Minaj will go toe-to-toe in the Best Hip Hop category as well as Best Look.

Melbourne-born, US-based DJ/singer Havana Brown has also picked up a wild card nom for Best Australian Act via fan votes. The wild card fan vote saw 19 million votes flood in from around the world. More digital activations are set to follow throughout the 2014 MTV EMA campaign.

Voting will close on 9 November 2014 at 9:59am AEST.

Katy Perry and Ariana Grande are leading the nominations with seven and six nods respectively, with super producer Pharrell close behind with five. Other acts recognised include Eminem, Sam Smith and Kiesza.

The 2014 MTV EMA will broadcast live from The Hydro in Glasgow on Monday, 10 November at 11am AEST.
