5 Seconds of Summer rep Australia at the Teen Choice Awards

Sydney’s 5 Seconds of Summer have landed two nominations in America’s Teen Choice Awards – the only Australians to make an appearance.

They’re up for Choice Music: Group against Fifth Harmony, Florida Georgia Line, Maroon 5, Migos and Why Don’t We.

The Australians’ hit ‘Youngblood’ – which this week holds on at #1 in Australia for the fourth week and a second week in New Zealand – is also in the running against heavyweights in Choice Song: Group.

The finalists in the category are:

5 Seconds of Summer – ‘Youngblood’

Imagine Dragons – ‘Whatever It Takes’

Maroon 5 – ‘Wait’

Panic! At the Disco – ‘Say Amen (Saturday Night)’

Portugal. The Man – ‘Feel It Still’

Why Don’t We – ‘Trust Fund Baby’

According to the band’s Australian record label EMI, ‘Youngblood’ has cumulative worldwide streams already surpassing 150 million.

It’s gone platinum in Australia for sales of 70,000.

Its parent album, also titled Youngblood, has just been released in Australia.

It follows up their 2014 debut and 2015’s Sounds Good Feels Good – which each entered the Billboard 200 at #1 and hit #1 on the ARIA chart.

This isn’t the first time the band have been up for a Teen Choice Award, with 18 nominations between 2014-16 and wins for Choice Music: Breakout Group (2014), Choice Summer: Music Group (2014), Choice Music: Rock Song for ‘Jet Black Heart’ (2016), Choice Summer Music Star: Group (2016) and Choice Summer Tour (2016).

The band also announced its Meet You There all-ages tour.
