The APRA AMCOS 1,000,000,000 List has gained another member, with Aussie boyband 5 Seconds Of Summer recognised at a ceremony on Tuesday.

5SOS have been rewarded for their huge 2018 hit ‘Youngblood’, which won Song of the Year at both the 2018 ARIA Awards and an Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2019 APRA Music Awards, and has since passed a billion streams.

APRA chief executive Dean Ormston presented the band; Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings and Michael Clifford, with the award at APRA headquarters

The 1,000,000,000 List takes into account streaming numbers from all major services including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Vevo, Amazon, Google Play and more.

The list continues to grow, and 5SOS join Nat Dunn, Dean Lewis, Flume, P-Money, Troye Sivan and Alex Hope, as well as Tones And I and Cookin On 3 Burners on the prestigious list.

‘Youngblood’ eight consecutive weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart, and four weeks at #1 on the NZ Singles Chart, as well as breaking the Top 10 in eleven countries including Canada (#3), UL (#4) and Billboard Hot 100 in the US (#7).

It was the first single from 5SOS to break the top spot on the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart. It also spent five weeks at #1 on the US Mainstream Top 40 Radio Chart and topped Canada’s Top 40 Airplay chart.

Unsurprisingly, ‘Youngblood’ is the band’s most-Shazamed song to date. It spent 24 weeks in Shazam’s Global Top 20, from June to November 2018, peaking at #4, as well as 5 consecutive weeks at #1 on Shazam’s Australian chart.

In Australia, the single is now 10x Platinum and came in at #1 on the 2018 End Of Year ARIA Singles Chart. It is also 2x Platinum in the US.

“We’ve always taken risks and not really understood the seriousness that surrounds songs, they just explain our lives from our perspective, and we keep it close to our hearts and we keep hustling,” said Ashton Irwin said.

The ceremony was attended by APRA AMCOS staff, band management, Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia and guests from the band’s label EMI.

“We really respect this award and everyone who works on these songs and getting them heard,” he said.

Ormston added; “The billions list is a way to globally acknowledge songwriters who achieve this streaming milestone. This award is a way to shout to the world just how fantastic Australian songwriters are.

“‘Youngblood’ has been a massive song, and it’s going to be the first of many more to come, and we’re proud to represent and work with 5SOS,” said Damian Trotter, managing director, Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia.
