30 speakers unveiled for Sydney’s Global Cities After Dark project
EMC’sGlobal Cities After Dark has announced a lineup of 30 influential speakers who aim to inspire more people about the economic benefits of thriving nightlife.
FBi Radio’s Clare Holland, SLAM’s Helen Marcou, and Keep Sydney Open Campaign Manager Tyson Kohare among the group of advocates who will curate expert sessions at the one-day forum on Tuesday November 28.
150 hand-picked delegates from government and planning sectors, as well as artistic and cultural organisations, will come together to hear from leading nighttime culture and economy specialists.
Leading the forum is a keynote address from Night Mayor of Amsterdam, Mirak Milan, as he discusses cultivating diversity and inclusiveness in building creative cities.
“Being a part of Global Cities After Dark is like a dream come true,” Milan explained, “because by sharing ideas for a safe and vibrant nightlife, it empowers bottom up initiatives after dark that contribute and strengthen creative cities around the world.”
Joining Milan from Redfern’s Giant Dwarf Theatre is founder of The Creative Footprint, Lutz Leichsenring,on indexing the artistic landscape of urban spaces;Kate Becker, Director of the Office of Film + Music City of Seattle on activism and external government influences,Consultant Psychiatrist & CEOAdam Winstockon aspiring to zero harm, health and wellbeing in a city’s nightlife sector, and more.
With Sydney firmly on the agenda, a group workshop facilitated by Waterfield’s Kevin Nuttall will encourage attendees and speakers to collaborate on city success mapping, before a ’Sydney at Night’ panel discusses the current state of Sydney’s night-time economy and new initiatives in development.
This panel features City of Sydney and Create NSW representatives, with more panelists to be announced.
Global Cities After Dark is a three-year project to be held in Sydney each November from 2017 to 2019. According to Milan, this year’s inaugural event will provide a platform for-minded individuals to collaborate and forge key relationships that can be built uponover the course of the project.
“It will be one of the most innovative forums from a city planning perspective because global thought leaders will gather in Sydney to discuss what strategies can be put in place for creating liveable inclusive cities with high quality of life and culture for everyone.”
