2023 ARIA Awards Venue, Date Revealed

The 2023 ARIA Awards returns to the Hordern Pavilion this November with a “refreshed look and feel” and an expanded broadcast partnership, organisers have announced.

The recording industry’s flagship awards ceremony is set for Nov. 15 at the iconic Sydney concert venue, and will premiere live on Stan at 5pm AEDT for the first time.

That live feed will be followed on the free-to-air commercial Nine Network from 7.30 AEDT, and streamed globally on YouTube.

The Hordern Pavilion, on Gadigal land, is an old stomping ground for the a-list rock and pop community, with the likes of David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters, INXS, Midnight Oil and many others filling the room over the years.

It’s the second year in a row the Hordern will host the ARIAs.

Last year’s event had its teething problems, with many industry guests grumpy about the long lines at the bar.

ARIA and its production team will have hoped to iron-out those wrinkles.

“Since 1987, the ARIA Awards have represented the pinnacle of achievement in Australian music. The incredible releases over the last 12 months prove there’s no shortage of world-class talent on our shores,” comments ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd, noting this year’s gala is “our opportunity to showcase a year of amazing Australian music to the world.

The partnership with YouTube now extends into its fifth year, generating a total of 29 million views over that time.

Last year’s event, organisers say, racked in more than 1.7 million views on the platform.

YouTube will once again live stream the red carpet from 1.30pm AEDT.

As previously reported, the industry-voted awards will now be subjected to a two-stage voting process.

The first stage will begin early next month. The ARIA Voting Academy panel of 1,000 industry voters along with genre expert category panels will be given the entire list of eligible entries and asked to select their first, second and third preferences.

Then, ARIA will announce the ARIA Awards nominees at 10am on Sept. 21, streamed live on the ARIA Awards website.

Singer, songwriter and ARIA Award nominee Gretta Ray was on hand to unveil this year’s event.

“I’m so excited for the upcoming 2023 ARIA Awards. This event holds a special place in my heart, not just as a celebration of incredible music and artists, but also as a moment to connect with fellow musicians and fans who share the same passion,” she comments.

“The ARIA Awards are a recognition of the hard work, creativity, and dedication that goes into making music, and being a part of it is truly an honour.”

More announcements on this year’s event are said to be “coming very soon.”
