New Zealand Music Platform Lume Expands to Australia, Inks Gyro Deal and ARIA Chart Eligibility (EXCLUSIVE)

New Zealand music platform Lume is officially launching in Australia, The Music Network can reveal.

Having already attracted the likes of Bic Runga, Fazerdaze and Troy KingiKingi, the "digital box set" album app - which offers an 80/20 percent revenue share in favour of artists and rightsholders - will debut with multiple ARIA Award winner John Butler Trio's 25th anniversary of their breakout second album, Three.

John Butler Trio's management, Jess Keeley and Kester Sappho, added: “Finding an independent, artist friendly platform in this digital landscape is challenging. Finding one to present the full scope of an artist’s creative world, even harder.

We’re excited to partner with Lume for the 25th Anniversary of the first John Butler Trio album, Three, and more excited to see how the fans react to the archival imagery, the intimate insights in to John’s process and the truly excellent accompanying podcast (produced by Craig Schuftan). We love being a part of the first group of Australian artists to have a Lume!”

The band are the first of what Lume says will be a number of new releases and reissues from Australian acts in the coming months.

On top of this, the platform has recently signed a deal with local distributor, Gyro, and received ARIA chart eligibility. This means that, in John Butler Trio's case, sales of Three will be added to the total of the already-platinum record.

 “Australia is our closest neighbour and our primary priority market following our NZ launch,” Lume co-CEO Tim Harper said.

“We have made three trips over in recent months and found substantial interest in what we’re building. John Butler’s stature in Australia is immense - we’re thrilled to have him as our first major Australian artist on the platform, and excited to bring further releases from the country’s outstanding repertoire.”
