2022 ARIA Awards Set Date

The 2022 ARIA Awards is locked in the calendar.

The Australian record industry’s flagship night is set for Nov. 24, with broadcast deals confirmed with Nine Network domestically, and with YouTube for streaming worldwide.

As previously reported, the ARIAs move to The Hordern Pavilion, for the awards’ first large-scale broadcast event since the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic.

This year’s ceremony will mark the fourth year in partnership with Alphabet-owned YouTube. Last year’s hybrid event at Taronga Zoo accumulated more than 1.7 million views on YouTube.

With the 2022 edition welcoming industry guests and music fans for a regular, in-person party, and with YouTube on board to livestream the red carpet and pre-show action for the first time, organisers will be keen to see those view counts climb.

Most of the pieces are now in place to ensure a flashy, fun-filled night. All that’s missing is the line-up of performers and the full list of nominations, all of which will be revealed in due course.

“Nine has been a fantastic partner to ARIA over six years, as have YouTube and Destination NSW. With their support we can continue to create opportunities for Australian music to be heard in all its forms, by all who create it. We can’t wait to put on a sensational show at The Hordern in Sydney live and in person on Nov. 24.”

Melanie Silva, managing director of Google Australia on behalf of YouTube, enthuses “we’re back,” while 9Now and programming director, Hamish Turner notes, “We are excited to honour and celebrate the incredible talent which makes the Australian music industry one of the best in the world.”

Adds minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade Minister for Sport and Tourism, Stuart Ayres MP, “we are committed to supporting the industry’s recovery through events like ARIA Awards, Great Southern Nights and other initiatives such as the Live Music Support Package and CBD revitalisation programs.”

There are more announcements to come, explains ARIA in a statement issued today (May 17), though standouts from the Aussie music community shouldn’t be hard to find.

Over the past 12 months, ARIA notes, over 67 Australian releases having landed in the Top 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and 13 Australian albums have hit No. 1.

Indeed, the current ARIA Albums Chart is led by Daniel Johns’ critically-lauded second solo album, FutureNever, his first leader outside of Silverchair.

Genesis Owusu, The Kid LAROI, and RÜFÜS DU SOL were among the big winners at the 2021 show, which rung in the changes by dumping the gender-based categories and moving away from its long-time home, The Star.
