Lime Cordiale leads the 2020 ARIAs tally with eight nominations

Seven weeks out from the 2020 ARIA Awards the nominees were revealed this morning during a YouTube premiere hosted by Nine’s Brooke Boney with special guests.

Sydney duo Lime Cordiale landed more nominations than any other artist – eight in total – including for the coveted Song Of The Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Release and Best Group.

Tame Impala are second in the tally with seven nominations, followed by Sampa The Great with six, DMA’S and Miiesha with five, and Ruel and Violent Soho with four.

Also up for Album of the Year are DMA’s, Jessica Mauboy, Sampa The Great and Tame Impala.

This year’s Breakthrough Artist nominees include Alex the Astronaut, Mallrat and The Kid LAROI, along with Miiesha and the Chugg Music-signed brothers Lime Cordiale.

ARIA chief executive officer Dan Rossen said it’s been a year the biz will never forget.

“Our industry has taken a hit, but the creativity of our local artists has not,” he said.

“Our artists have shown great resilience and their music has helped many Australians get through these tough times I congratulate each of this year’s ARIA Nominees, who make up a remarkable list of Australian artists who have made a difference this year.

“I also want to congratulate all the Fine Arts and Artisan and nominees. The music industry is a team effort, and their role is vital in making our music industry robust.”

As reported by TMN last month, ARIA confirmed the awards would still proceed this year, but they’ll look a little different to years gone by due to mass gathering and travel restrictions.

The 2020 event will take place at Sydney’s The Star on November 25 without an audience, as the organisers look to celebrate Australian music in a COVID-Safe environment.

This year the Fine Arts and Artisan Awards will be on the same day as the main event.
