YouTube launches resource for artists
YouTube has announced the launch of a new website which will act as a resource for artists.
YouTube For Artists was announced today.According to the video streaming giant’s blog, the website will act as a guide for artists, providing “tips on how to best get discovered, lessons on engaging with your fans beyond your music videos, a guide to making money on YouTube, and more.”
In the same vein as Spotify For Artists and Pandora AMP, the site aims to teach artists how to use the platform in a strategic manner. It will show artists how to use fan funding, leverage their YouTube views to chart on Billboard or played on SiriusXM in the US or NRJ in France, and offer information on its YouTube Spaces, the five free production resources it operates in Los Angeles, New York, London, Tokyo and São Paulo.
"What we're doing in a sense is putting the wisdom of the experts in the hands of everyone," saidVivien Lewit, director of music partnerships at YouTube.
YouTube For Artists is a more fine-tuned version of its YouTube Creator Hub, a resource for content creators, which receives over one million hits a month. It will be made available globally with previews of its data tool taking place atits SXSW partyon March 18 and 19.
The news follows last night’s announcement that YouTube will replace its ‘annotations’ offering with ‘Cards'. Cards isa new interface designed to work across all screens, that operates in the same way annotations does byproviding video creators the option to add clickable text overlays to their clips.
