YouTube releases a new tool to help protect original content creators

YouTube has introduced a new tool to help combat scam channels and protect original content creators. ‘Copyright Match’ will identify videos that are stolen and reposted by someone else and allow the original poster pull the ripoffs down.

‘Copyright Match’ is set to launch next week for content creators with over 100,000 subscribers. The new system will verify the first iteration of the video and proceed to scan other videos uploaded to see if they’re the same. This tool will not work for snippets, it will only recognise full videos.

Once the tool identifies a rip-off it’ll give the original creator the choice to either a) do nothing about it or b) remove the perpetrating video.

Product manager Fabio Magnana states “We know how frustrating it is when your content is uploaded to other channels without your permission and how time-consuming it can be to manually search for these re-uploads.” You can read more about it here.
