Yours & Owls launches NFT commemorating a crowd chant at 2021 event

Wollongong’s Yours & Owls festival has announced its entry into the NFT market, launching its own Collectable Rookie Token commemorating their 2021 run.

Launched in partnership with eco-friendly NFT platform Serenade, which arrived back in August, the token features an image of Tones And I performing at the event and is titled ‘Fuck You Peach’, named after a crowd chant heard at the event back in April.

To operate within COVID-19 safety guidelines at the time, the festival partitioned the crowd into four sections with two revolving stages in the centre.

NSW’s state guidelines at the time required all patrons to be seated, but the crowd in the ‘Peach’ section reportedly continued to stand up and dance, which forced performances to stop on multiple occasions.

As the pauses continued, punters in the remaining three sections began to chant “Fuck You Peach” in protest.

100 limited-edition tokens have gone live today with a starting price of £50 ($91 AUD). The auction ends on Monday, November 15.

The highest bidder at the end of the auction will receive the Golden Ticket Rookie Token, which guarantees the holder lifetime free entry into Yours & Owls Festival for them and a friend.

All proceeds from the NFT sales will be going to Wollongong Homeless Hub, which describes itself as “a specialist homelessness service that provides support, information, referral and advocacy to homeless people or those at risk of homelessness”.

In September, Yours & Owls was announced as one of the recipients of the most recent round of the Federal Government’s Restart to Sustain and Expand (RISE) fund, receiving an allocation of $700,000.
