Your Girl Pho and Loose Tooth top the community radio charts

Community radio shows a huge amount of support for Australian music, with almost 40% of music played coming from local artists. Taste-making presenters excel at giving airtime to an incredible spread of what Aussie artists have to offer. The Amrap Metro and Amrap Regional Charts provide insight into what’s getting airplay and attention on community radio each week. Here’s the lowdown on some tunes charting this week.

Spit Chewy – #6 Amrap Metro

Newly formed but with an almost fully formed sound, Spit Chewy are a crew of kids strumming out of Wollongong with a huge future ahead of them. The four-piece indie rock outfit are gaining plenty of attention with their single Grunge is My Religion, a nostalgic ode to their influences that doubles as a contemporary anthem thanks to the charming and melodic stylings of lead vocalist, Anna Scobie. Expect big things and even bigger tunes from Spit Chewy in the near future. In the meantime, scope them out on Yass FM in NSW, 4ZZZ FM in Brisbane and Sydney’s FBi Radio.

Tash Sultana – #10 Amrap Regional

No stranger to the Aussie airwaves, Tash Sultana has stepped lightly into the charts since officially dropping her single, Harvest Love, a well-known tune to fans of the multi-instrumentalist’s bedroom recordings on Youtube, and an emotionally driven reminder of the versatility and staggering talent that a young artist of this calibre possesses. With an exponentially growing audience across the globe, Tash’s fans are eagerly awaiting the drop of their debut album, Flow States on August 31. Until then, check out the latest singles on Mount Gambier’s 5GTR, Bay FM in NSW’s Byron Bay and Noosa FM.

Ainslie Wills – #2 Amrap Metro and Regional

Steadily climbing the charts over the last few weeks, Ainslie Wills returns to the top with Society, a delicate build-up of crunchy guitar and distant drums that allow Wills to showcase her raw vocal talent. Fearlessly stating her frustrations with day-to-day existence and the restrictions of living a conventional life, Wills gives us a thoughtful taste of her upcoming LP, All You Have is All You Need. Before catching her commanding stage presence live, tune into Radio Adelaide, BBB FM in South Australia’s Barossa Valley or NSW’s 2RRR to hear her new track.

Fulton Street – #8 Amrap Metro

Led by the powerful vocals of Shannen Wick, Fulton Street’s mastery of classic R&B and soul is undeniable. Their latest offering, Check Yourself, is no exception and acts as a rallying call for the casting off of societal judgements in order to make way for positive change. All this without losing any of the energy and soulful class that has made them such an incredible act to watch rise. The seven-piece are known for their dynamic live performances, gaining plenty of stage time in Melbourne’s thriving funk/soul music scene and on the festival circuit. Recently they have been featured heavily in their hometown on Edge Radio and Triple R, but also on Perth’s RTR FM and 4ZZZ in Brisbane.

Kate Fuller & The Boys Club – #3 Amrap Regional

Kate Fuller slides into the charts with a little help from Alana Dawes on double bass and Kyrie Anderson on drums – affectionately known as The Boys Club – to deliver a sleek, lyrical exploration of femininity through the guise of a swing-era jazz piece on Ain’t No Sweet Man. The award winning singer contrasts the traditional subject matter of such tunes with a topical examination of the ever-evolving nature of relationships women have with themselves and men. Tune in and click along with Kate’s delightfully clever track on Nambucca Valley Radio in NSW, Radio Adelaide and 3WAY on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.
