EXCLUSIVE: World Bar’s weekly Banquet has a new band booker for 2017
Coming to Sydney’s World Bar each and every Friday since 2015, Banquet has some big new plans for the year, announcing the departure of band Booker Dom O’Connor in favour of new addition Liam Apter.
O’Connor will be moving into a full-time role at Lunatic Entertainment, while Apter joins the team of Stephanie Polivka and Samantha Lando as they carry on with Banquet, a regular post-lockouts event that has offered live bands upstairs, and dance acts beneath.
“Banquet is about promoting those artists who could be tomorrow’s next big thing but just don’t have help to get there,” Lando says, with bookings so far that have ranged from singers like Elizabeth Rose and NZ rapper Young Tapz, to production talent including Golden Vessel and Moonbase. “We’re that helping hand.”
“Banquet is definite taste-maker in the Sydney music scene in terms of the acts we book, the night we put on all the way down to the art we use,” Palivoka adds. “Our favourite nights are the ones where we have a packed band room that vibes the electronic acts downstairs. Which creates a total dance floor massacre afterwards. When that happens it’s the best feeling.”
With a new booker on board, the group hope to expand from a weekly Sydney night into a full-blown touring operation, taking DJs and producers across the country.
