Wafia to headline TikTok’s float at Sydney’s Mardi Gras

TikTok has announced homegrown Iraqi-Syrian singer-songwriter Wafia will headline its float at the 2022 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

The queer singer will lead the crows with a live performance of her song ‘I’m Good’, which has been streamed in excess of 36 million times on Spotify and soundtracked over 44,000 videos on TikTok.

The song also becomes the sound for TikTok’s 2022 #MardiGrad Hashtag Challenge.

Wafia said she couldn’t be more excited to be heading back to Australia from Los Angeles to join the TikTok float.

“It feels amazing for my song ‘I’m Good’ to have been embraced by the queer community, especially at home, and it’s such an honour and a privilege to be able to perform as part of such a special night,” she said.

“This will be my first Mardi Gras, and what a way to kick things off. I can’t wait.”

Throughout the parade, Wafia will be joined by members of TikTok’s LGBTQ+ creator community including Nat Alise, Rainbow History Class, and Carla From Bankstown.

TikTok Australia and New Zealand’s general manager, Lee Hunter, said championing the platform’s diverse and inclusive community is at the heart of everything they do.

“We’re proud to once again be partnering with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, showcasing our ongoing commitment to elevating LGBTQ+ voices and providing an open, inclusive platform where people can proudly show up as their authentic selves every day,” he said.

“We’re excited for our community to be marching in the official event in the name of inclusiveness and eagerly look forward to spreading that joy across Australia and the globe for those tuning in on TokTok to watch from afar.

“To our LGBTQ+ community – this is your moment to shine and feel the warmth of the world on you all.”

TikTok has also released a playlist of iconic Pride anthems, featuring tracks from last year’s flat star G Flip, as well as Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan, Cub Sport, Electric Fields and Wafia.
