Voting for the 2021 Music Victoria Awards is now open
Voting is now underway for all public-voted categories at this year’s Music Victoria Awards, with fierce competition across the board.
The 2021 Music Victoria Awards will take place on December 9th at the Melbourne Recital Centre. It will celebrate the best music to emerge from the state, with the only requirement being that nominees have released at least multiple recordings between July 1st, 2020 and June 30th, 2021.
After Kylie Minogue and Pierre Baroni were previously announced as Hall of Fame inductees, the fate of seven awards at the annual event are now in the hands of the public, including the prestigious Best Album and Best Song Awards.
Epic prizes are also offered for those voters who take part: 1st prize is an exciting pack values at $550 containing a selection of goodies from 3RRR, 102.7FM, PBS 106.7FM, Noisy Ritual, Brick Lane, and Yamaha. There are also four cool runner-up prizes courtesy of Brick Lane to be won.
It certainly won’t be easy to choose though with stellar talent in all seven categories.
Best Album will be contested hotly with musician and producer Alice Ivy (Don’t Sleep) and iconic veterans The Avalanches (We Will Always Love You) set to be strong favourites.
The Avalanches are also nominated for Best Group, where they’re up against perennial favourites King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Indigenous Australian artist Emma Donovan & The Putbacks, and psychedelic jazz outfit Mildlife.
Best Song sees Alice Skye (‘Party Tricks’) and The Avalanches (‘Wherever You Go’) in with a strong opportunity again, although Alex Lahey & Gordi (‘Dino’s) will fancy their chances.
In a crowded competition, Best Solo Artist will be the most difficult category to decide, with Alice Ivy, singer-songwriter Maple Glider, hip hop star Sampa the Great, and pop favourite G Flip all enjoying excellent years.
Maple Glider will also contend for Best Breakthrough Act against the likes of pub punk singer Blake Scott and rising electronic duo Shouse.
G Flip, King Gizzard’s Stu Mackenzie, and Emma Donovan are the big names up for Best Musician.
And in a year where live music was severely impacted, the Best Live Act category still contains wonderful performers like punks Amyl and the Sniffers, pub rockers RVG, and post punk outfit Cable Ties, all from Melbourne.
You can see the full list of nominees and vote for who you want to win at Music Victoria’s official website. Voting closes at midnight on Friday, November 5th.
