Vine invests in music with new features

Vine has veered its focus into the music industry, with the videoapp introducing a slew of new music features including the snazzily titled, Snap to Beat.

From today, Viners will have more potential to go viral thanks to Vine’s Snap to Beat feature, which allows users to create and blend perfect loops with much more editing control.

“This brand new initiative brings a larger focus on music that we will strengthen the already strong connection between music and Vine,” Carolyn Penner, Head of Communications and Marketing at Vine, told TMN.

According to the app’s blog, creating never-ending loops will be easier than ever with the Snap to Beat feature. Although this does sound like an effect that’s already been achieved – people have long been creating seamless gifs with online gif makers. But to be fair, those gifs don’t have simultaneous audio looping in the background.

Along with Snap to Beat, Vine has also introduced a Discovery feature allowing users to explore the new Featured Tracks section. It seems that these new features are designed to maximise exposure for Vine artists – especially with Vine’s milestone partnership with Billboard, which will allow Vine stars to appear on the Billboard Social 50 Chart.

It’s likely that the chart success of Silento’s Watch Me (which incorporates the dance moves made famous by Vine) cemented the deal between Billboard and Vine. However, Penner says it was many different factors that led to the collaboration.

“It’s hard to pinpoint a specific event. Working with Bilboard was a natural step given the evidence of artists and songs breaking on Vine,” she tells TMN.

“We look forward to seeing even more music Vines, collaborations, remixes, and creativity, while also bringing to the surface the compelling and entertaining music content that is unique to Vine.”
