Victoria launches new pathway for young First Peoples to enter the creative industries

The Victorian government has, through Creative Victoria, set up the new First Peoples Creative Industries Traineeship program.

It is designed to launch careers for young (18—25 year old) First Peoples in creative organisations and businesses across the state.

These are invited to apply to be a host organisation.

They must have the capacity to offer trainees meaningful work opportunities for a minimum of 6, and up to 12, months.

These include stage management, technical production, event management, screen production, design, games development, and more.

Developing business skills is a key component of this program and trainees will be required to complete Certificates III-IV in Business.

This program is a key action of the First Peoples Action Plan for the Creative Industries 2018—2020 and responds to a current lack of professional training opportunities and career entry points available to young First Peoples.

The action plan has 21 modes, developed in close consultation with First Peoples from across Victoria’s creative industries and community.

All actions have been designed with, by and for First Peoples; and all future decisions will be guided by a new First Peoples Reference Group.

The program is delivered by Creative Victoria in partnership with Jobs Victoria and Small Business Victoria, aligning with the Tharamba Bugheen, Victorian Aboriginal Business Strategy.

Creative organisations and businesses can express their interest via Eliza Smith at Creative Victoria on phone (03) 8683 3128 or email [email protected].
