VASSY joins The 1,000,000,000 List With ‘Bad’

Welcome to the club, VASSY.

The Darwin-raised singer, songwriter and producer is now a member of APRA AMCOS’ The 1,000,000,000 List with ‘Bad,’ her collaboration with David Guetta and Showtek (Wouter and Sjoerd Janssen) passing the one billion streams milestone.

‘Bad’ dropped in April 2014 and went on to hit No. 1 on the ARIA Dance Chart, No. 5 on the ARIA Singles Chart, No. 11 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and it ruled in the charts in Norway, Finland and South Korea.

VASSY, Guetta and Showtek are credited co-writers along with internationals Sulta & Shepard (Ossama Al Sarraf and Ned Shepard), Manian (Manuel Reuter), Giorgio Tuinfort and Nick Turpin.

Now based in Los Angeles, VASSY (real name Vassy Karagiorgos) was a recipient of the APRA Professional Development Award way back in 2004 in the popular/contemporary category.

Cracking The 1,000,000,000 List is “such an honour considering that my career first started with being acknowledged by APRA AMCOS in Australia before I left for the U.S.” comments VASSY. “And, now being acknowledged once again for one of my biggest records that I wrote and performed, which went number 1 in many countries around the world, putting me on the map globally as an Australian artist, singer and songwriter.”

Previous recipients include Nat Dunn (for Marshmello’s ‘Friends’), Dean Lewis and Jon Hume (for ‘Be Alright’), Flume (‘Never Be Like You’), Jake Mason, Ivan Khatchoyan, and Lance Ferguson (for Cookin’ On 3 Burners’ ‘This Girl’), Starley and P-Money (‘Call On Me’), Troye Sivan and Alex Hope (‘Youth’) and Tones And I (‘Dance Monkey’).

VASSY’s trophy collection is a growing one. She already has six No. 1s on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart including ‘We Are Young,’ Lost’ with Afrojack, ‘Concrete Heart’ with Disco Fries, and ‘Nothing to Lose,’ co-produced with Tiësto, and her works have been used in global television campaigns for Victoria’s Secret, Nike and Pepsi.

‘Bad’ is certified Gold in the U.S. and double platinum in Australia. Also, VASSY scooped the the International Dance Music Award (IDMA) for “Best Featured Vocalist Performance.”

In 2018, VASSY created the imprint KMV (Kiss My VASSY) which later entered into a joint venture with Red Music, a label division of Sony Music Entertainment.

In the same year, she was appointed to APRA AMCOS’ Ambassador program.
