Unearthed High winners The Rions sign with UNIFIED, Select Music

School’s out for The Rions.

Just three months after winning 2021 Unearthed High, the youngsters from Sydney’s Northern Beaches sign to UNIFIED Artist Management and appoint Select Music as booking agent.

The pieces are falling into place for bandmates Noah, Harley, Asher and Tom who, in August, scooped the Unearthed High competition with their single ‘Night Light’!, beating out 1,400 entries.

Drawing favourable comparisons to Ocean Alley and Lime Cordiale, the indie rockers from Barrenjoey High School have already earned slots on a string of festivals including Yours & Owls 2022 and NYE on the Hill.

The adventure is just getting started.

“To have such incredible songwriting instincts and playing chops at such a young age is a rare thing,” says UNIFIED Artist Manager Steve de Wilde.

“It feels like sky’s the limit for these guys and we’re really excited to be on board to help bring their vision to life.”

Select Music CEO Stephen Wade adds, “We are so happy to welcome The Rions to the Select Music family. Fresh out of school and ready to take on the world and we can’t wait to help them build the career they deserve.”

The fourpiece, he adds, is “immensely talented, yet humble and most importantly wonderful human beings we look forward to starting this career journey with them and look forward to being a part of their team.”

As part of their Unearthed High main prize, the lads scored professional industry advice from a senior music manager, they’ve been hooked up with Lime Cordiale for a mentoring session, and 2019 Unearthed High winner George Alice offered the band a support slot on her national tour next year.

“With their mainstage-ready confidence and urgent indie hooks,” triple j Unearthed Music Director Dave Ruby Howe said following their Unearthed High win, “this foursome is ready to launch and we reckon that the Unearthed High crown will be the rocket fuel to send them flying.”

To celebrate their two new deals — and the final day of school — The Rions release the single “Disassociation” via Community Music, the freshly unveiled distribution arm of UNIFIED Music Group.

‘Disassociation’ will be launched Friday, Jan. 21, 2022 at The Vanguard in Newtown.
