UK singer Tom Grennan to conduct AU market-first virtual promo tour
In a first for the Australian music market, UK pop artist Tom Grennan will conduct a virtual international promo tour kicking off today and running next week.
The 26-year-old Grennan will carry out a succession of interviews with Australian media outlets, taking in TV, radio, podcasts, print and online press, including an upcoming feature length interview with Rolling Stone Australia.
Sony Music Entertainment Australia set up Grennan’s promo trip in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment UK. The Au market-first is a reflection of Sony’s commitment to building strong campaigns for international artists even as the Australian borders remain closed.
“I’m honoured to be the first artist,” Grennan said in a statement. “Obviously it’s weird doing this all virtual. I would love to be out there doing this all in person!”
Born in Bedfordshire and based in London, Grennan has been one to watch since his guest appearance on Chase & Status’s single, ‘All Goes Wrong’, in 2016. Grennan’s debut solo album, Lighting Matches, came out in July 2018 and featured production from the likes of Samuel Dixon (Sia, Kylie Minogue), Fraser T. Smith (Adele, James Morrison) and Francis “Eg” White (Keith Urban, Sam Smith).
Lighting Matches peaked at #5 in the UK Official Charts and was later certified Gold. Grennan’s second album, Evering Road, followed in March 2021 and has since trumped the success of Lighting Matches on every available metric.
Evering Road debuted at #1 in the UK and the single, ‘Little Bit Of Love’, has been a chart success all over the world, including in Australia where it peaked at #16. ‘Little Bit Of Love’ was recently certified ARIA Platinum; Grennan’s first track to do so.
‘Little Bit Of Love’ cracked the top ten in the UK, where it has also claimed Platinum status. In the wake of ‘Little Bit of Love’, Grennan has had two further UK top tens. The first, ‘Let’s Go Home Together’, is a duet with fellow UK rising star Ella Henderson; the most recent is Grennan’s feature on Calvin Harris’ ‘By Your Side’.
“[Harris] called me and said, ‘I’ve been watching you for a while and I’ve been trying to figure out how we can work together and I found this tune and I feel like this one is perfect,’ ” said Grennan in conversation with Rolling Stone Australia.
“And then he was like, ‘Right, this is my next single. Let’s do it.’ And I was honestly just so thankful that he’d given me a chance.”
The streaming success of ‘Little Bit of Love’, ‘By Your Side’ and ‘Let’s Go Home Together’ persists, with the former two pushing towards 100m global streams, while ‘Let’s Go Home Together’ topped the UK’s Official Trending Chart in April.
All three tracks appear on the Evering Road Special Edition, which came out in early September. The newly expanded record includes a total of 21-songs; seven more than the initial release.
The Evering Road reissue coincides with Grennan’s sold out tour of England and Scotland, which is taking place through September and October.
