Two Aus artists make Sweden’s Top 100 Songs list

Three tracks by Australian artists were among the 100 most consumed songs in Sweden last year.

Adelaide-born, global chart-topper Sia had two of her singles make the list; Elastic Heart came in at #61 and Chandelier came in at #73. Meanwhile Timmy Trumpet and NZ rapper Savage’s track Freaks, placed at #43.

Freaks is now 5x Platinum in Australia, triple Platinum in New Zealand, Gold in Belgium and reached the top 10 in a handful ofcountries including Sweden, Finland, Poland, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya. The track is marks Ministry of Sound Australia’s highest selling single ever.

Interestingly, the original cut of Elastic Heart – featuring The Weeknd and Diplo – was one of Sia’s less high-reaching ARIA chart releases. The track peaked at #67 in October 2013 but still went Platinum and Gold in New Zealand and Denmark, respectively. However, when Sia re-released the track as a solo version last January, as a primer to her Platinum-certified, ARIA #1 album 1000 Forms of Fear, it fast began climbing global charts. The track is 3x Platinum in Australia, double Platinum in the US, and Platinum in Canada, Italy and the UK. Elastic Heart also became her second #1 in Poland (after Chandelier) and hit #1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in April.

Forever tagged as Sia’s global breakout, Chandelier hit the Top 5 in 20 countries and was nominated for four Grammy Awards. The song is now 5x Platinum in Australia and Norway, 4x Platinum in Italy and Sweden, 3x Platinum in the US and Canada, 2x Platinum in New Zealand and Denmark, and Platinum in Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK. The track also marked Sia’s first US #1 and lead to a few US television debuts, with performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Saturday Night Live, and at the Hollywood Bowl. Additionally, Sia became the first artist to take out the APRA Songwriter Of The Year award for three consecutive years in 2015.

Sony/ATV have publishing rights to all three tracks in Sweden’s Top 100, as well as six tracks in the Top 10.

The most popular track in Sweden last year was Major Lazer’s Lean On, which is also Spotify’s Most Streamed song of all time. Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do was #2 and Kygo Feat. Parson James’ Stole The Show placed at #3.

Swedish producer Avicii has six of his tracks featured in the Top 100 and this week was announced by Musikforlaggarna(The Swedish Music Publishers Association) as 2015’s most successful songwriter in Sweden. Avicii lead ahead of songwriters Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare (Axwell / Ingrosso – Sun Is Shining and On My Way), and Tove Lo (Ellie Goulding – Love Me Like You Do, Tove Lo – Habits (Stay High)).

The Top 100 list is based on physical, digital and streaming data from global recording industry representative IFPI.

Australia’s own Top100 will be revealed tomorrowwhen the annual triple j Hottest 100 poll for 2015 areannounced from midday (AEST). The Hottest 100 is the largestpublicly voted poll in Australia besides the federal election.
