Twitter’s Head of Music Bob Moczydlowsky exits
Twitter’s Head of Music Bob Moczydlowsky announced his exit on Saturday with industry whispers already predicting an announcement from Apple in the near future.
Moczydlowsky joined Twitter in 2013bringing with him the industry relationships which lead to Twitter’s agreement with 300 Entertainment. The agreement, which sees Twitter give Lyor Cohen’s labelaccess to its music trending data, is the only major music strategy to be announced in the past year or so. Twitter’s #music initiative was shut down on April 18 last year and the app was pulled from Apple’s store.
Interestingly, prior to his stint with Twitter Moczydlowsky briefly worked with Topspin Media, the artist services platform founded by Beats Music’s current CEO Ian Rogers. Apple is currently hiring in its music division as it prepares for the relaunch and rebrandingof its acquired Beats Music. Last month BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe left his roleto work for Apple, and while Apple hasn’t announced his new role yet, it did say Lowe was "one of the foremost music tastemakers in the world." Apple is also currently advertising for an Editorial Producer to be based in London"with experience across pop culture and a specific expertise in music journalism."
It’s unclear whether Twitter will continue its endeavour to dually work as a music platform or not.
