triple j wins international ‘best station’ award

triple j has been named Radio Station of the Year at the 3rd International Music Industry Awards. These were held in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel at the tail end of MUSEXPO 2016.

The influential Australian radio network was up against BBC 6 Music in the UK, KROQ Los Angeles and Sirius XM in North America.

In the radio ratings earlier this week, triple j dominated the 18 to 24 year market with 24.8% in Sydney, beating Nova and KIIS. It was also the top rating FM station and #2 overall during the 9am-4pm slot during the weekday.

Music Supervisor of the Year: Mike Knobloch, President, Film Music & Publishing, Universal Pictures

Music Publisher of the Year: Jens-Markus Wegener, Managing Director, Imagem Music Publishing

Music Attorney of the Year: Josh Binder, Partner, Davis Shapiro & Lewit, LLP

Performing Rights Organisation of the Year: PRS For Music

Digital Media Company/Executive of the Year: Spotify

Global Brand Music Integration of the Year: Nike

New Emerging International Artist of the Year: Smith & Thell (Sweden)

Melbourne’s David Vodicka, Partner of Media Arts Lawyers, was a nominee in the Music Attorney category.

UK-based Korda Marshall thanked Sat Bisla, whose company A&R Worldwide, puts on MUSEXPO, that he was the reason he was still in the music industry. He said he discovered Melbourne band The Temper Trap at MUSEXPO Europe in 2008. The band went on to have success in Australia, the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and the US alternative charts.
