Wolf Alice – My Love Is Cool
[Sony]
The London quartet's debut LP has been almost five years in the making. Having released a handful of singles prior to this release – many of which aren't included on My Love Is Cool – it's clear Wolf Alice felt the pressure of expectation on this 13-track opus. Produced by Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys), it's a tornado eye of lyrical and instrumental restraint. As guitar licks thunder above bassline kicks, the band's ability to offer infectious melodies, both new and revamped, is akin to standing in the calm of the storm – each lush strum bookended by criminal synths.
