triple j Pick of the Week – The Chemical Brothers
THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS FT. Q-TIP
GO
The Chemical Brothers are well and truly back. And they’re not just back in a “we’ve been away for a while” fashion, but a “prepare to have your face melted off, this is why we’re one of the best electronic acts in the world” sort of way.
A fortnight ago they teased us with the Sometimes I Feel So Deserted, and earlier this week they blew us away with the second taste off their new album, Born In The Echoes, the energetic and incredibly catchy single Go. The UK duo of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have again teamed up with legendary emcee Q-Tip for this track, one of many guests set to feature on the new LP (others include Beck and St Vincent), and it’s straight up fire – a driving, effortless beat held together by a powerful bass line that explodes in the chorus with intergalactic synths.
It’s coupled with a Metropolis-inspired film clip directed by the one and only Michel Gondry, who takes the propulsive beat of the song and visualises it against a troupe of dancers creating a human locomotive through angular art-deco architecture. Born In The Echoes will be the eighth record for The Chemical Brothers and will hit shelves on July 17.
