Triple J pick of the week: Golden Features
GOLDEN FEATURES
Tell Me ft. Nicole Millar
There’s no denying that the Australian dance music scene is in a pretty stellar shape at the moment; countless established and up-and-coming bedroom producers are dishing out track after track of exciting house, trap, dubstep, glitchy electro and much more. Whereas some aim to emulate an already existing and popular sound, Sydney producer Golden Features has entered the scene with a fresh new take on the genre.
Gaining its first play on triple j’s Lunch with Lewi less than 24 hours after it hit the world, Tell Me features the sultry vocals of Nicole Millar (as heard on Peking Duk’s High, and who’s worked with Cosmo’s Midnight, Allday, Emoh Instead, and most recently Robert DeLong) and traverses dark, deep house territory in a similar vein to the recent breakthrough hit Faded by LA producer ZHU.
Influenced by MF Doom, Golden Features dons a pretty impressive golden mask and originally shrouded his identity in anonymity, but recently revealed himself as 23-year-old Tom Stell, explaining that he adopted a hidden persona so to force people to focus on his music rather than the person behind it. Now, he and his golden mask are gearing up for their first run of live shows, which he promises will be announced really soon.
