triple j Pick of the Week

San Cisco
RUN

It’s been a busy few years for Fremantle’s finest San Cisco – touring relentlessly around the country and internationally following the release of their debut, self-titled album, which in itself was a sterling effort following up a run of successful EPs and a lot of hype. They slowed down in the past 12 months or so to focus on album number two, built their own hap-hazard studio, ditched the studio, moved into an already established studio with longtime producer Steve Schram, and started to record new music.

Earlier this week on triple j Breakfast with Matt & Alex, Jordi and Scarlett from San Cisco premiered the first taste of the album, the single RUN. From the opening bar you’re hit with the catchy, indie dance vibe we’ve come to expect from the four piece, but wrapped up in a darker, more sinister tone. As with a lot of their new material, its beginnings were born on tour, and in the case of RUN, it was initially written by guitarist Josh on his iPad before the band fleshed it out back home.

Still no word on when the rest of the album will be due, but you can catch San Cisco on tour in November.
