Triple J Pick Of The Week
THE AMITY AFFLICTION
Pittsburgh
(UNFD)
Undeniably one of the loudest bands to ever emerge from Gympie QLD, The Amity Affliction dropped a bombshell on Tuesday when they announced the imminent arrival of their fourth album, entitled Let The Ocean Take Me.
Keeping in the tradition of their previous LPs, the four core members of the group brought in a different second guitarist for this recording, Dan Brown, who frontmen Birch and Stringer both agree helped bring a fresh level of energy to the album.
This is no more evident than in the first cut off of it, Pittsburgh, another perfect piece of brutal yet melodic metalcore: urgent, aggressive, frankly personal, and commanding your attention, while keeping it catchy as hell with a singalong chorus.
It’s a song that highlights dark times for Birch which ultimately led to an important realisation in his life, and forced him to lift himself up into a stronger and healthier light.
Let The Ocean Take Me drops on June 6.
