Triple J pick of the week
SAFIA
Paranoia, Ghosts & Other Sounds
Last year a trio out of Canberra attracted our attention with a little single called Listen To Soul, Listen To Blues. Six months later, SAFIA were supporting huge acts like Rudimental, Disclosure and AlunaGeorge; scored a J Award nomination for Unearthed act of the year; topped the iTunes electronic chart; and scored #76 in the Hottest 100.
Now we have their tasty new track Paranoia, Ghosts & Other Sounds, which, like their first single, is an incredibly catchy, digital-soul inspired piece of electro-pop. Multiple layers of warm, bubbly, cinematic house music, coupled with front-man Benjamin Joseph’s buttery vocals, takes you on a celestial journey that’ll soon have you playing this song on repeat.
The fact that these boys have only released a handful of songs, but all of such high quality, proves their undeniable talent, and if they continue on this tip, SAFIA will dominate the Australian dance scene in the next 12-18 months.
The band will also be playing support for Lorde, before setting off on their own tour. Details here
