Ben & Liam are leaving triple j to join the Nova 919 team in Adelaide
With Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton set to end their three-year tenure at triple j at the end of next week, it’s been revealed that the pair are set to return home to Adelaide to join the Nova 919 team.
Back in 2017, the triple j Breakfast team underwent a little bit of a shakeup when Adelaide boys Ben & Liam stepped into the role created by the wayward Alex Dyson and Matt Okine.
With big shoes to fill, the pair revealed they went through an emotional few months at the start thanks to a litany of hate-filled messages from detractors, only to shake it off and truly shine as exceptional hosts.
Now, after three years in the role – which has seen them do everything from pranking their boss, ripping into Triple M, and copping a serve from Jimmy Barnes – triple j announced that the pair are set to depart for new roles in their hometown of Adelaide.
Having first met at Adelaide’s Fresh 92.7 station a few years ago, it’s now been announced that Ben & Liam are will take over the breakfast role at Nova 919 at the beginning of 2020.
“Ben & Liam have proven themselves to be top class radio broadcasters,” explained NOVA Entertainment’s Chief Programming and Marketing Officer Paul Jackson.
“We’ve been watching their progress for some time and with recent announcements around our Adelaide breakfast show, the perfect opportunity has arisen for us to bring the boys back to their hometown of Adelaide. The guys have great chemistry, tell great stories and are laugh out loud funny.
“I’m sure the Nova Adelaide listeners are going to love them.”

“Working at triple j has been an incredible opportunity that we will never forget,” added Ben Harvey of the new role. “Hopefully in 20 years people will still be abusing the current hosts telling them they miss the good ol’ days. Or maybe they just said that to us?
“Working at Nova has been something we’ve wanted to do ever since we started in radio. We can’t wait to start the next phase of our careers back home in God’s Country.
“Have they finished the road works on South Road yet? Has anyone driven onto the O-Bahn in a while? Is there a long line at the West End factory water refill station? I need to go home to answer these questions!!”
“We had an absolute blast at triple j and still can’t believe they hired us,” added Liam Stapleton. “Don’t know how Nova have either, but hey we’ve signed now (suckers).
“We’re really looking forward to coming home to Adelaide. At night we dream of giant silver balls, even larger Scottish men on the side of motels and Tony Modra’s right foot. You can take the boys out of Adelaide, but you can’t take Adelaide out of the boys.”
While Ben & Liam are set to debut in their new role in January of 2020, triple j announced today that the pair’s final show will take place at the end of next week. Lucy Smith will see out the year from November 4th, while Sally & Erica will take over as full-time Breakfast hosts from 2020.
