triple j announces free AA show in Melbourne and special programming for Aus Music Month
November is Aus Music Month across the triple j, Unearthed and Double J network, and the national broadcaster announced yesterday how they’ll be celebrating.
The headline event is Live At The Steps, a free all-ages gig in front ofthe Victorian Parliament in Melbourne on Novermber 19. Themassive billfeatures all-ages heroes Skegss, Tired Lion, Mallrat and Baker Boy, plus some special surprise guests. A collaboration between Unearthed and Music Victoria’s hugely successful U18s inititiative The Push, it’ll also be recorded for Live At The Wireless.
“We’re stoked to be able to team up with The Push and build on all the fantastic work they do to create opportunities for young people in Victoria,” Unearthed music director Dave Ruby Howe told TMN.
“Our under 18s audience are so vital to the core of what we do – not only are young listeners some of the most passionate you’ll find interacting with triple j and triple j Unearthed, but they’re also the next generation of Australian musicians who we’ll be championing in the years to come. We get a reminder every year of the crazy level of talent that’s emerging across the country through Unearthed High, so we’re extra excited to add another high-school aged act to this bill, giving a young Unearthed winner the opportunity to play a huge stage alongside future icons of Australian music.”
The all-Aussie content on triple will include the now-traditional local-only Like A Versions; Live At The Wireless sets from Gang Of Youths, Amy Shark, Boo Seeka and Polish Club; and the announcement of the 2017 J Award nominees on November 23.
Double J are getting in on the action too, with a (perhaps unintentional) Brisbane-focused twist: Custard will be Artists in Residence throughout the month, and there’s aSongs Of Your Streets special hosted by Bernard Fanning on Monday November 13. There will also be classic LATW sets from Missy Higgins, Archie Roach, Jebediah and Something For Kate, and J Files on INXS, Midnight Oil and more.
It all kicks off in two weeks with Aus Music T-shirt Day on November 3 – so wear your best (or most raggedy) band tees.
