Capping off a truly monumental 2019, Tones And I made her US television debut overnight on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.

Not a bad way to end a year which saw Tones burst onto the Australian music scene, crack triple j and then commercial radio with debut single ‘Johnny Run Away’, and release her debut EP The Kids Are Coming.

That would have been a big first impression by any standard, but through viral single ‘Dance Monkey’, Tones has brought new meaning to the overused phrase “meteoric rise”.

Just days after breaking the all-time record for the longest-serving #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart, Tones began with a stripped-back intro before going full ‘Dance Monkey’ on Fallon.

Breaking through in the US has been a slower burn for Tones compared with several other global markets, and with a new peak of #23 on the latest Billboard Hot 100, it always seemed like simply a matter of time.

Tones is unsurprisingly the most-nominated artist ahead of next week’s 2019 ARIA Awards, where she’ll also perform.

She’s up for eight separate gongs, including best female artist, pop release, independent release and video, as well as breakthrough artist and song of the year.
