Tones And I’s ‘Dance Monkey’ is climbing the all-time Spotify leaderboard
Tones And I is dancing up the podium.
Sometime this weekend, Tones will slot into the No. 2 position on the all-time Spotify streaming list with ‘Dance Monkey.’
When it happens — and it will happen — Post Malone’s ‘Rockstar’ featuring 21 Savage will be relegated to third place.
‘Dance Monkey’ is a beast. The song has racked-up more than 2.143 billion streams on Spotify, and is just one of just four songs to pass the two billion milestone.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ remains the all-time leader on the board, with more than 2.75 billion spins.
Don’t bet against Tones making a move for No. 1 in the months and years ahead.
With the exception of Tones, the Spotify Top 10 is a boys’ club (the No. 9 track “Señorita” is listed as a collaboration between Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello).
And the one-time busker is the only artist from outside North America to crack the top tier.
‘Dance Monkey’ set charts alight everywhere after its release in May 2019. Its 11-week stint atop the Official U.K. Singles Chart is an all-time record for a female solo artist, and its 24-week reign on the ARIA Singles Chart is unmatched.
All told, the song ruled 30 charts, cracked the U.S. Top 5 and scooped an armful of awards.
Its official music video has raced past 1.5 billion views on YouTube.
Tones’ is no one-hit wonder. Her most recent hit ‘Fly Away’ took off for nine weeks at No. 1 on radio in these parts, and cracked the Top 5 on the ARIA survey.

There’s more of the good stuff on the way.
The Melbourne-raised singer and songwriter is “almost finished” with her full-length debut album, explains Regan Lethbridge, Tones’ co-manager and founder/director of Lemon Tree Music.
Earlier this week, Tones announced a national tour of theatres and outdoor venues, due to kick off April 23 at the Palais in Melbourne. The 12 months ahead ought to be “monumental,” Lethbridge predicts.
Hi Australia! Can not wait for you to see what I have set up for these shows! It's going to be big. ❤️???? https://t.co/DQX9uQA6as pic.twitter.com/xl5beK3IYg
