TMN launches Social Media Artist charts
For the first time Australian fans and music professionals will be able to track artists’ popularity, based on their ranking across the world’s leading social media channels. TMN’s two new weekly charts will rank the top 50 local and top 50 international musicians, according to 40+ weighted engagement events across website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
The Music Network’s publisher Mark Dalgleish says tracking artists’ performance has come a long way since TMN’s HOT 100 airplay chart was the only ranking that mattered. “Today’s music fans and listeners are predominantly online and we need to reflect that, which is why we now publish charts across 30 differentgenres and digital channels. Social media is a valid indicator of an artist’s popularity and engagement, so it deserves to be recognised along with airplay, sales, digital and streaming results.” he said.
In the first Social Media 50 ranking, we see Billboard chart record-beaker Justin Bieber receive double the engagement rate of all other acts. He leads on YouTube with a rank of #1 whilst still scoring high engagement on Twitter and Instagram at #2 and #3 respectively.
On the Australian Social Media 50, Sydney’s 5 Seconds Of Summer holds top spot following their ARIA #1 debut of sophomore album Sounds Good Feels Good. The album has now entered the US and UK charts at #1, no doubt helping the group’s #1 position for engagement across website, Instagram and Twitter.
