Tired Lion dominate WAMAwards nominations

Tired Lion dominate WAMAwards nominations

“Feeling extremely grateful and happy that a lot of our hard work has been recognised,” Perth band Tired Lion responded after they dominated the nominations list for WA’s WAMAwards with six mentions.

They’re up for Best Rock Act, Best Pop Act, Best Single, Most Popular Live Act, Best Music Video and Most Popular Act. They noted they were “alongside some very talented Perth bands.” Their manager Jacob Snell is up for two industry categories

In the past 12 months, Tired Lion picked up a record deal with Dew Process, signed with US and UK/Europe booking agencies and played tirelessly around the country and hit major international festivals as Glastonbury and Latitude.

It has been a busy week for the Lions. Their latest single Agoraphobia was picked up by triple j on full rotation, they added more Australian shows, and they’ve already started to fill up 2017’s schedule with another overseas tour. Plus bassist Nick Vassey and long time partner Hayley Jane tied the knot.

In the meantime, jazz-rap collective Koi Child got five nominations. Up for four each were post-punk Hideous Sun Demon, Verge Collection and Rag N’ Bone who’ve just returned from Asian dates.

Other multi-nominees were Tame Impala, Troye Silvan, Abbe May, Methyl Ethel, Lucy Peach, Andrew Winton, Benjamin Witt, Daniel Susnjar, Davey Craddock, Gina Williams, Matt Gio, Mei Saraswati, Nerve Quakes, Old Blood and POW Negro.

The Music Network is presenting the Best Keys/Synth Artist category.

The WAMAwards are held on Thursday November 3 at the new live music and multi-purpose Gate One Theatre at Claremont Showgrounds.

According to organisers WAM, the nominees were chosen after consultation with category specific specialists. Over 700 music industry members have begun judging the industry categories. The public will vote for six categories including Most Popular Live Act, Most Popular Event and Most Popular Video.
