She first won our hearts as an eight year old on Young Talent Time, and went on to become one of the country’s highest selling female artists. The longevity of her recording career is a testament to enduring talent and artistry. We are proud to see Tina take her place amongst the icons of the Australian music industry in the ARIA Hall of Fame.”
Upon hearing the news of the ARIA Hall Of Fame induction, 6x ARIA Award winner and the first woman to ever win the ARIA Album Of The Year award twenty years ago in 1995, Tina Arena said, “What a thrill to receive this recognition for what has been an incredible journey so far. I look forward to sharing this milestone with my peers along with the Australian public.”
To celebrate Tina Arena’s induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame, ARIA and The Star have teamed up to unveil the inaugural ARIA Hall Of Fame Walk that will be on display at The Star from Thursday, November 5 until November 28.Fans are encouraged to visit The Star to see the displays featuring Hall Of Fame icons Johnny O’Keefe (1988), AC/DC (1988), INXS (2001), Kylie Minogue (2011) and this year’s recipient, Tina Arena (2015). Tina Arena will be a special guest at the grand opening of the ARIA Hall Of Fame Walk on Thursday, November 5 and for the reveal of the 7.7metre ARIA Award statue that will take pride of place at the entrance to The Star untilNovember 28.
Tina Arena began her career as an eight-year-old, singing live on the variety television show Young Talent Time. Even as a young girl she was known for her powerful voice and stage presence. After performing on the wildly popular program for seven years, Arena left the show as she approached her 16th birthday. After a couple of years, Tina graduated from child TV star and carved out a successful solo career with Columbia Records. The David Tyson-produced ‘Don’t Ask’ was the highest-selling album of 1995 in Australia and one of the biggest-selling albums by an Australian female singer to date. ‘Don’t Ask’ (featuring the hits ‘Chains’, ‘Wasn’t It Good’, ‘Sorento Moon’ and ‘Heaven Help My Heart’) sold millions worldwide and was certified 14 times platinum in Australia (over one million copies sold).
One of the proudest moments of Tina Arena’s career was at the ARIA Awards in October 1995, when she was awarded the Best Pop Release and Song of the Year for ‘Chains’. She also won the award for the Highest Selling Australian Album and the Album Of The Year awards for ‘Don’t Ask’.
Tina went on to achieve incredible success around the world with sales in excess of 10 million spanning across 8 English speaking and 2 French speaking albums. Her 2013 album ’Reset’ spent 3 consecutive months in the ARIA Top 20, with Australian sales alone now in excess of 100,000.
On Friday October 30, Tina Arena will release ‘Eleven’, the eleventh studio album of her extraordinary cross-generational recording career. Recorded across five cities (Sydney, Melbourne, London, Paris and Stockholm), ‘Eleven’ is a beautiful, complex, state of the art collection of emotive, electronica-based songs. While there are allusions to numerous musical styles throughout – gospel, jazz, experimental, disco, EDM, as well as some of the most pure pop Tina has produced in decades – there is an etherealness and elusiveness to this modern era of Tina Arena recordings that defies definition.
Celebrate the illustrious career of Tina Arena as she gets inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame at the 2015 ARIA Awards Connected By Telstra. General public tickets are sold out, but fans can join the festivities on the David Jones Red Carpet from 2.00pm on Thursday, November 26 at The Star, Sydney and watch the broadcast on TEN.
