This New Initiative Will Help New Zealand Youth Enter the Music Industry
Auckland music venue Big Fan is entering 2023 with a new initiative aimed at helping launch the musicians and industry personnel of tomorrow.
The new Morningside spot, which launched its purpose-built music space last year, has announced the Ignite Programme, the first of four empowering new initiatives designed to develop aspiring artists, songwriters, producers, and more.
Ignite is a nurturing programme for rangatahi with a love and passion for music and events. The eight-week training programme will cover event management, event production, and music production.
The overall aim of the programme is to create complementary skills in participants in order to support them on their future journey in what can be a fraught business. Ignite will also highlight the impressive breadth of potential career pathways that awaits participants.
“After launching Ignite in 2016, we’ve seen our graduates go on to further education and careers in the music and creative communities,” Saving Fountain, Big Fan General Manager and Ignite Founder, says.
“It is amazing to witness a spark in our young people when they are able to put the skills they’ve learned through Igniteinto practice. That’s how all of us learn, so to provide these young people with the opportunity to produce their own songs and shows is invaluable.”
Ignite is open to rangatahi aged between 15 and 18 in Auckland. Following the first intake, a second intake of participants will begin later this year, and will be open to those aged 18-25.
Participants in the first intake will be given one-on-one mentoring with experienced industry professionals, seminars and hands-on workshops, venue tours. They’ll also learn the skills necessary to promote and run a live music event.
The first Ignite intake os open now until Monday, February 20th at 5:30pm local time. You can find out more information about the Ignite programme via the official website.
