Sync Watch: Thelma Plum lends Powderfinger cover to CommBank
Thelma Plum has landed a healthy sync deal with one of the big four banks.
Her cover of the Powderfinger track ‘These Days’ was been picked up by the Commonwealth Bank for a television commercial that rolled out earlier this month.
The 60-second spot features Australians, young and old, doing every day things like wheeling out the rubbish and visiting the bank. It’s currently airing on national TV networks and online.
Plum and her record label, Warner Music Australia, announced today that a full version of the track has now been released in response to the TVC resonating with viewers.
“I was given the chance to record a song I grew up with, and as a Brissie local, I already know a couple of the Powderfinger guys so of course, I said yes,” Plum said.
The Gamilaraay singer-songwriter also revealed she recorded parts of the cover at Ian Haug’s Airlock Studio, while taking a short break from tracking her next album.
The release of Plum’s full-length version follows her APRA Music Awards Breakthrough Songwriter and the Song of the Year nomination for ‘Better in Blak’.
With new music scheduled for later this year, her national Homecoming Queen tour, which special guest Kira Puru, has now been re-scheduled to November and December this year.
