The Screaming Jets announce new album, battalion of guitar heroes on final track
The Screaming Jets have announced that their eighth studio Gotcha Covered will be out on July 27.
It’s a collection of versions of Australian rock radio classics cut live at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne with producer Steve James.
The closing track, ‘Guitar Band’, turns Stevie Wright’s 1974 classic from its original 3 min 21 sec to a 4 min 21 sec featuring 16 Australian guitar heroes.
Joining the band’s Scott Kingman and Jimi Hocking were Rick Brewster (The Angels), Nat Allison (Suzi Quatro), Tim Henwood (SuperJesus/Palace Of The King), Cam McKenzie (Horsehead/ Mark Seymour Band), Bob Spencer (The Angels/Rose Tattoo), Dave Leslie (Baby Animals), Brett Kingman (James Reyne), Brett Williams (the Choirboys), Warwick Scott (Skunkhour), Ronnie Simmons (Richie Ramone), Danny Spencer (Jimmy Barnes/ Richard Clapton), Chris Hawker (Taxiride), Pete Wanno (Suzi Quatro/Josie Jason), Stuart Fraser (Noiseworks/John Farnham), Stu Marshall (Empires Of Eden) and Zakk Zedras (Chocolate Starfish).
The Jets’ bassist Paul Woseen says, “Guitar Band turned into our own Guitarmageddon, featuring solos from solos from some of Australia’s finest guitar players.”
Right from the start, the Screaming Jets had a policy of covering songs as Roland Howard’s ‘Shiver’, Barry MacGuire’s‘Eve of Destruction’, Johnny Cash’s ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ and Neil Young’s ‘Rockin’ In the Free World’ to indicate their wide influences.
Gotcha Covered pays tribute to, among others, AC/DC (‘Rock’n’Roll Damnation ‘,’Powerage;), Paul Kelly (‘Darling It Hurts’, ‘Gossip’), Hoodoo Gurus (‘Right Time’, ‘Crank’), The Easybeats (‘Wedding Ring’, ‘It’s Too Easy’), Goanna (Razors Edge’, ‘Spirit of Place’), Men At Work (‘Overkill’, ‘Cargo’), INXS (‘This Time’ and ‘Listen Like Thieves’) and You Am I (‘Purple Sneakers’, ‘Hi Fi Way’) as well as numbers from Radio Birdman, The Angels, Australian Crawl, The Radiators, Flowers and Dragon.
