Taylor Swift announces another surprise album, ‘Evermore’

Taylor Swift has announced another surprise record, titled Evermore, will arrive later today.

Sharing the news on social media, Swift described Evermore as the sister record to her previous 2020 release Folklore. Similar to Folklore, the new album sees Swift team up with The National’s Aaron Dessner, producer Jack Antonoff, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and boyfriend Joe Alwyn (credited as William Bowery).

Songs on Evermore will feature guest appearances from The National, Haim and Bon Iver. In her post on Instagram, Swift said she has always considered her albums to be independent of one another, but this isn’t the case with Evermore and its predecessor.

“To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in,” she said.

“In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with Folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.”

Evermore will arrive at 4pm AEDT today.

Folklore hit the top of the ARIA Album Chart upon its release in July and has sat on the chart ever since.

From November, Swift was legally free to re-record her first six albums after the master rights were acquired by Scooter Braun through his takeover of Big Machine Records. Braun’s Ithaca Holdings have since sold the rights to investment fund Shamrock Holdings.
