TAPZ inks label and publishing deals with Mushroom
Mushroom’s Melbourne-based eclectic, boutique record label 100s + 1000s has just beefed up its roster.
TAPZ (fka Young Tapz) joins a modest three-artist roster (Owl Eyes, nyck, Lila Gold).
The Zimbabwe-born, New Zealand-based rapper, who last night premiered his new single ‘Run Don’t Run’ on triple j with Linda Marigliano, has also inked a deal with Mushroom Music Publishing.
Discussing the video for ‘Run Don’t Run’, TAPZ said: “The video is a visual representation of my journey to find fearlessness in a system where we are taught to run and act without question.”
TAPZ featured on Hermitude’s 2015 crossover hit ‘The Buzz’ in 2015, which landed at #8 in the year’s triple j Hottest 100. In late 2015 he released his debut single ‘Killa’ which got a mention on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show and currently sits on close to two million plays on Spotify.
The 21-year-old is managed collaboratively by Winterman & Goldstein (Empire of the Sun, The Avalanches), G.O.O.D. Management (Kanye West, Pusha T), and Control Music Group (Phoenix, Hudson Mohawke).
TAPZ performs an impromptu live set in Sydney tonight (Friday) at World Bar and tomorrow (Saturday) at Yah Yah’s.
