Travis Collins brings a taste of the Tamworth Country Music Festival to Sydney’s CBD
Destination Tamworth partnered with Chris Watson Travel to bring a slice of the town’s famous Country Music Festival to the heart of Sydney last week.
Kicking off on Friday with a surprise line-dancing flash mob and performance from award-winning artist Travis Collins, Tamworth Comes To Town saw a flood of live music, songwriting sessions, dancing and more take over the Rydges World Square to celebrate the talents of some of Australia’s best country artists.
Chris Watson, one of the event’s organisers, said that the takeover helped to remind Sydneysiders of the sheer extent of cultural activities facilitated within the world-famous country music hub.
“The idea behind Tamworth Comes to Town was to promote what Tamworth has to offer, showcase the incredible range of live music that can be found around the city each January, and bring tourism back to Sydney’s CBD,” Watson said.
The takeover also helped to double as a promotion for the upcoming 2022 Tamworth Country Music Festival, which will celebrate its 50th year when it goes down next January.
Festival manager Barry Harley said it was a momentous occasion for the festival, highlighting the event’s historic ties with its cousins in the big smoke.
“January 2022 marks a momentous 50 years of the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and with many Festival goers hailing from Sydney, this event is the perfect way to kick start the celebrations and continue to cement Tamworth’s position as the home of country music in Australia,” Harley said.
“There will be a lot to celebrate at next year’s Festival.”
