Limited edition coins released for Tamworth Country Music Festival’s 50th anniversary
Limited edition coins have been released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Manufactured by the Royal Australian Mint, the 50 cent coin features a gold-plated version of the event’s signature golden guitar.
There will be two coins available for collection, with a regular uncirculated 2022 50 cent coin and a selectively gold-plated silver proof coin. Both are legal tender, available for purchase from the Mint’s online shop for $10 and $90 respectively.
Barry Harley, Tamworth Country Music Festival’s manager, said it was fitting that the event has been cemented in the form of a coin due to its impact on the music industry and the nation’s economy over the past 50 years.
“For five decades this festival has celebrated and supported Australia’s country music artists and the industry,” he said.
“50 years is a truly remarkable milestone to reach and it’s fitting that this moment is celebrated and now immortalised on a 50 cent coin. With a limited stock of coins available, I urge all country music fans and coin collectors alike to get in quick before these pieces of musical history are sold out.”
Leigh Gordon, CEO of the Royal Australian Mint, said that the limited edition coins also help reflect the event’s impact on culture and history since its debut in 1972.
“The Mint is excited to have collaborated with the Tamworth Country Music Festival to release a coin that tells the story of a much loved part of Australian culture and history,” Gordon said.
“Both country music fans and coin collectors will treasure this unique coin for years to come.”
The 2022 Tamworth Country Music Festival will take place from January 14 – 23 next year.
