Tame Impala join Florence + The Machine and Chet Faker on the Opera House forecourt

PRESS RELEASE:

Fresh from their recent #1 chart debut, Australia's ARIA Award-winning rock titans Tame Impala cement their global ascent with a performance on the Forecourt of the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday 11 November. Tickets go on sale at 9am, Friday 31 August.

Ben Marshall, Head of Contemporary Music at Sydney Opera House, said,“The surreal swirl of Kevin Parker's mind has coalesced into a record that's going be regarded as an absolute classic in years to come. Currents is a remarkable, fully formed statement as well as a reimagination and expansion of Tame Impala's vision – I think it will be a massive moment seeing and hearing it unpacked live on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

“It's an incredible run of artists we are presenting on the steps this spring with Tame Impala, Chet Faker and Florence + the Machine and I hope it contributes to making Sydney a vibrant and exciting place for music lovers and music makers.”

As their glorious set at Splendour in the Grass last month confirmed, Tame Impala have evolved into an incendiary live beast since emerging from Perth as Kevin Parker's home studio project to become Grammy nominees and the only band to win the J Award twice.

A leading collaborator on Mark Ronson's Uptown Special, 29-year-old frontman Parker has been rhymed over by Kendrick Lamar and compared to John Lennon by his son, Sean.Currents, Tame Impala’s fourth album, is their boldest and most playful to date; hailed by Pitchfork as “a revelatory statement”, it reconciles the neo-psychedelia for which the band is famous with Parker’s childhood passion for Michael Jackson and pure, unadulterated pop.

Tame Impala, who first performed at the Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE 2011, will unleash their sonic suites on the Opera House Forecourt this Spring, framed by Sydney Harbour, the famous sails and Monumental Steps. The Forecourt is one of the world's most spectacular outdoor performance venues, as those who saw US band The National’s now-legendary February 2014 sold-out shows there can attest. Tame Impala’s Forecourt appearance rounds out a superb suite of Forecourt music events in November, including Chet Faker on November 6 and 7, and Florence + The Machine’s record-setting run on November 13, 14, 15 and 17.
