THE BLACK KEYS
LONELY BOY
(GAGA MUSIC)

Following sync licenses with TV shows Workaholics, Eastbound & Down, Hawaii Five-0 and Australia’s Underbelly, films including Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and commercials for A&E and Lee, Lonely Boy’s reach is still crossing the Atlantic.

The ARIA #2 hit single has just been licensed for Hyundai’s new six-month ‘Small + Epic’ campaign. Cleared by local music supervisor The Music Mill, the TV commercial begins with the track’s infamous riff being played on a ukulele, it then rolls into the master recording – an apposite fit for the vehicle manufacturer’s tag line.

While the publishing rights are shared between GagaMusicPublishing and Universal Music Publishing, UMP has a lesser share in the track through its co-writer Brian Burton, aka artist/producer Danger Mouse. Burton plays keys and bass guitar on the song and produced it alongside The Back Keys (Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney). Warner Music owns the master recording.

Lonely Boy is lifted from Black Keys’ seventh studio album El Camino, which entered the ARIA chart at #3 when it was released in December 2011. The record is now 2x Platinum having sold in excess of 140,000 units.
