Sydney’s Palms sign to Ivy League Records
PRESS RELEASE:
Ivy League Records has pulled out the bunting and gone a little dizzy blowing up balloons to welcome into the family, Sydney’sPalms!Palms is Al Grigg (singer, guitarist) Tom Wallace (drummer, “girlish backing vocals”), Brendan Walsh on bass and Dion ‘Danger’ Ford shredding the six-string. To kick off this party, Palms release their audacious new single ‘Bad Apple’, the first bite from their forthcoming sophomore album out later this year. Recorded with their buddy Owen Penglis (Royal Headache, Straight Arrows), there’s nothing ‘bad’ about this 2 minutes and 52 seconds of thrashing guitar-pop. ‘Bad Apple’ is out now with a bang-up video in tow, directed by local hero and Palms #1 maker of video dreams, SPOD. Getting premiered today on Pilerats, watch it HERE. Inspired by the classic 90’s skate video‘Video Days’, Palms and SPOD relive countless hours as kids watching ‘Video Days’ and bruised attempts to re-create tricks at their local skate parks. Try and not be impressed by the sweet moves the guys have managed to remember! Sydneysiders can catch Palms play ‘Bad Apple’ live for the first time, as well as new material from their forthcoming album at the Bad Apple Party FBi Radio are throwing for them at The Gladstone 16th July. It’s free entry so get there early to avoid disappointment. While ‘Bad Apple’ boasts all the hallmarks of Palms’ melodic and scuzzy debut record Stepbrothers, it enters a new territory lyrically as Al Grigg explains “It's more like a stream of consciousness, just rambling through the daily thoughts in my head: beers, hanging out, whoever I'm crushing on, bands I love, my friends, the past, the future, feeling proud, feeling insecure, and back to bands I love. And then it's all set to this propulsive rhythm that just races along, never quitting until the song runs out. Kind of like a heartbeat, I guess”. But more importantly, Al goes on… “I'll tell you what 'Bad Apple' ISN'T about: Jazz apples! Those things are so crisp and crunchy. Never had a bad one in my life. Easily the most refreshing of nature's treats. Red Delicious on the other hand… Bad bad bad bad bad apple.” 2015 is set to be the year of PALMS, the Australian music scene’s best 4 mates making music you want to dance around and sing along to with your mates. |
