SXSW Sydney Exec Simon Cahill Adds Commercial Leadership Duties at TEG Group

Simon Cahill is rewarded for his work on the inaugural SXSW Sydney with new leadership duties at TEG Group.

Based in Sydney, Cahill is appointed as head of commercial for the TEG Group, a new role with the live entertainment, ticketing and tech giant, which produces the Asia-Pacific leg of SXSW.

Going forward, Cahill assumes a leadership role on the TEG commercial team, with responsibilities for all commercial activity across the group, and working with its subsidiaries to identify and drive growth opportunities across the globe.

TEG’s suite of assets include Ticketek, TEG Dainty, TEG Van Egmond, Laneway Festival, Handsome Tours and more.

Cahill continues to oversee the commercial interests of SXSW Sydney, for which he was recruited in late 2022, well ahead of the inaugural 2023 event.

“TEG is delighted to welcome Simon Cahill into this vital role as we continue to grow the business and deliver exceptional partnerships through live experiences by connecting brands with consumers and generating ROI,” comments TEG Group CEO Geoff Jones.

“Simon has done a tremendous job at SXSW Sydney and his expertise and drive make him a perfect fit for this new role and a great addition to the senior leadership team.”

Before joining the SXSW team, Cahill clocked close to nine years with Warner Music Group, later serving as senior VP, commercial, audience and media with the Australian company.

In that time, he’d honed a skill set across marketing, business development and digital, including Web3, gaming and more, and been custodian of WMG’s Owned & Operated brands, including Cool Accidents, I Like Your Old Stuff, Maniacs and HipHop DX.

Before joining WMG in 2014, Cahill had stints with The Sound Campaign, a creative solutions agency for brands and properties; ONELOVE Music Group; Sony Music and BMG.

“I am excited to further immerse myself across the TEG Group, a powerhouse in the live entertainment game,” Cahill comments in a statement.

“TEG is currently in an exciting time of growth both locally and globally and I look forward to seizing these opportunities for clients through world-class partnerships.”

“Finally, I would like to thank Geoff Jones for this opportunity and for his on-going support.”

Led by managing director Colin Daniels and a team featuring head of music Claire Collins, the first-ever SXSW Sydney was widely praised as a success, boasting 287,014 guests, with 97,462 “unique attendees,” organisers say.

Reporters from The Brag Media were among the 758 media and press, while almost 35,000 tickets (including badges, wristbands and day passes) were distributed.

SXSW Sydney 2024 is locked in for Oct. 14- 20.
