SXSW Sydney 2024: Session, Festival Submissions Are Now Open

Braniacs, big thinkers, game-changers and nuke-hot artists — SXSW Sydney wants you.

From today (Feb. 13), the second annual music, games, screen and tech powwow opens its virtual doors for panel, speaker and showcase submissions.

Set for Oct. 14-20, this year’s event will feature 23 conference tracks, including freshly-introduced talking points on the creator economy, cyber and your data, education and skills, fashion, lifestyle and beauty, and food.

Organisers put the call out for ideas to “inspire real change,” which, come showtime, will feed into SXSW Sydney’s Session Select.

“Session Select is the spark for the SXSW Sydney Conference,” SXSW Sydney’s managing director Colin Daniels.

“It is how our brilliant creative community sets the agenda with their ideas for the conversations and stimulating content that shapes the conference. I am so excited to see and hear what our global thought leaders come up with for the second SXSW Sydney.”

Last year’s inaugural gathering boasted 1,178 sessions and events, with the SXSW community and team of conference advisors deciding who gets the green-light.

Also, SXSW Sydney is now taking submissions for its games, music and screen festivals.

“We’re looking for your innovative, abstract, genre-defying feature films, shorts, games, bands, solo projects, music videos and episodic works,” reads a statement from TEG, which is producing the event.

Applications for fiction and non-fiction projects that use virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) are also welcome.

According to organisers, 287,014 guests attended the first annual SXSW Sydney, with 97,462 “unique attendees” turning out.

Reporters from The Brag Media were among the 758 media and press, while almost 35,000 tickets (including badges, wristbands and day passes) were distributed.

Sydney is the APAC leg of SXSW and serves as the first expansion city outside of its original home, Austin, Texas, where the event was presented for the first time in 1987.
