Support Act calls for industry support to continue vital work
Australian music industry charity Support Act is looking to raise $50,000 by the end of the financial year.
It has put a call out to both individuals and businesses in the local industry for donations in order to continue its vital work. Any donation made by June 30 will benefit from a tax deduction.
Support Act is the only charity in Australia helping music professionals facing illness, injury or some other crisis preventing them from working. Help is offered in confidence and without judgement to musicians, roadies, songwriters, engineers and any other person who has worked professionally in music for five years or more. Support Act also contributes to the cost of funerals for people who die in poverty.
Support Act’s Chief Executive Joanna Cave told TMN why the appeal is so important:
“Support Act receives no government funding whatsoever. We are the only the charity doing this vital work and in order to keep doing it we need help from people who love music and care about the people who make it. Anyone taking a moment to watch Danny tell his story will see how important our work is and what a difference a donation to our charity can make.”
The charity recently helped musician Danny Widdicombe his family as he coped with a devastating leukaemia diagnosis.
