NFL book Justin Timberlake for Super Bowl halftime show, have short memory

Remember when, during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, Justin Timberlake removed a breast plate from Jacket Jackson’s costume, flashing her nipple on live TV to an estimated 146 million viewers?

Remember when CBS copped the largest fine in broadcast history for the stunt — dismissed officially as a ‘wardrobe malfunction’ at the time, but c’mon now — a whopping US$550,000?

Remember when the NFL blamed the show’s producers MTV, who blamed Janet, despite it actually being JT doing all the costume removal?

Remember when the NFL then fired MTV from producing any halftime shows in the future?

Remember when the feverish amount of related search results in the following hours saw the program enter the Guinness Book Of Records, and inspired the creation of YouTube?

Nope?

Well, seemingly neither do the NFL, who have announced that Justin Timberlake will be performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in Minnesota next February. Yay!

Timberlake has never publicly addressed the controversy, which seems to have worked wonders. It has been close to 14 years – although the female nipple remains as controversial as ever. Male nipples are fine though, obviously. Fine.
